Upcoming Sandpiper Pictures Blu-ray Releases

Sandpiper Pictures will add several new titles to its Blu-ray catalog this December. Amongst them are: Walter Hill’s Wild Bill (1995), Arthur Hiller’s The Hospital (1971), John Guillermin’s The Bridge at Remagen (1969), and Alan J. Pakula’s Comes a Horseman (1978). All titles are scheduled to arrive on the market on December 13.

The Bridge at Remagen

Description: Fatigued by the long combat in Europe, Lt. Phil Hartman (George Segal) and his men are ordered to advance on Remagen, a possible toehold into enemy territory. Meanwhile, Maj. Paul Kreuger (Robert Vaughn) of the German armed forces is ordered to defend the town and the nearby bridge across the Rhine. As a desperate battle commences, Hartman and Kreuger both find themselves pawns of larger forces and witness how war can turn each side against itself.

Wild Bill

Description: Gunfighter Wild Bill Hickok (Jeff Bridges) travels the frontier, gaining fame and enemies in roughly equal measure. He sometimes meets up with his friend and occasional lover, Calamity Jane (Ellen Barkin), and he headlines for awhile in a traveling circus. Along the way, he meets Susannah (Diane Lane), his one true love, but spurns her for the outlaw life. With his health deteriorating, Bill rides into Deadwood, S.D., as his past catches up to him.

The Hospital

Description: Herbert Bock (George C. Scott), the chief of medicine in a New York City teaching hospital, is contemplating suicide; he’s impotent, his wife has left him, and his children aren’t speaking to him. His hospital is also suffering from a recent spate of inexplicable deaths. In the midst of these setbacks, Bock is romantically drawn to the much younger Barbara (Diana Rigg), whose father is a patient. As Barbara restores Bock’s will to live, it turns out that the hospital deaths are murders.

Comes a Horseman

Description: Determined single woman Ella Connors (Jane Fonda) struggles to maintain her ranch despite constant attempts by Jacob “J.W.” Ewing (Jason Robards), the aging owner of the neighboring ranch, to coerce her into selling. When oil companies begin pressuring both ranchers to allow drilling, Ella’s position becomes even more perilous. Though Ella thinks she’s scrappy enough to fight them on her own, her chances get better with the arrival of hunky war veteran Frank “Buck” Athearn (James Caan).

Assassination Tango

Description: John J. (Robert Duvall) is a seasoned hit man sent on a job to Argentina. When the general he’s sent to kill delays his return to the country, John passes the time with Manuela (Luciana Pedraza), a beautiful dancer who becomes his teacher and guide into Argentina’s sensual world of the tango. Spellbound by the rich and mysterious world Manuela has shown him, his idyll is shattered when the reality of why he’s there comes crashing down around him.

The Hawaiians

Description: When Whip Hoxworth, a seafarer, returns to the island he loves, bringing a cargo of Chinese slaves, he learns that his grandfather’s fortune has been left to his cousin. Determined to make his own money, he sets up a rival plantation – and begins a bitter family feud.

Moll Flanders

Description: After her mother is executed as a thief, young Moll Flanders (Robin Wright) flees the orphanage in which she was placed and abused by a cruel priest, and eventually becomes a prostitute under the supervision of the deceitful Mrs. Allworthy (Stockard Channing). Her only ally is Allworthy’s servant, Hibble (Morgan Freeman), a kind man who keeps her spirits up. Eventually, Moll falls for Jonathan (John Lynch), a charismatic artist who renews her faith in life and love.

Holiday Heart

Description: After losing his police officer lover, Christian drag queen Holiday Heart (Ving Rhames) meets 12-year-old Niki (Jessika Quynn Reynolds) and her drug-addicted mother, Wanda (Alfre Woodard). Heart finds relief from heartache and a renewed sense of purpose when he steps in as a father figure to Niki and welcomes the two women into his life. But when Wanda becomes romantically involved with her drug dealer, Silas, it may endanger Niki and threaten to destroy the makeshift family.
